Summary

Suspected counterfeit large cents (dated 1840, 1844, 1846, 1855) were listed online in fake NGC-style holders using copied cert numbers whose barcodes scanned correctly. The author reports NGC marked the certs "Possible Counterfeit Holder".

Cert number shown: Not published here. Seller identities are never published. Source date: Proxiblog, Jun 7, 2025 (Jack D. Young).

Reported diagnostics

  • Cert number cropped out of listing photos
  • Barcode scans correctly, so scanning is not enough
  • Coin does not match NGC's image for that cert
